Institutional actors in the territory

NATIONAL PARKS OF COLOMBIA
This entity manages the country’s system of national parks and coordinates the National System of Protected Areas in the framework of the territory’s environmental planning, with the purpose of conserving  the diversity of the country’s biodiversity and ecosystems, providing and maintaining environmental goods and services, and protecting the cultural heritage and the natural habitat in which cultural traditions are developed as part of Colombia’s natural heritage and in support of its sustainable human development. This is based on these principles of transparency, solidarity, equity, participation and respect for cultural diversity.

Manage the areas of National Parks System and coordinate the National System of Protected Areas under the environmental planning, in order to conserve in situ biodiversity and ecosystem representative of the country, provide and maintain environmental goods and services protect the cultural heritage and natural environment where traditional cultures are developed as part of National Heritage and contribute to sustainable human development, under the principles of transparency, solidarity, equity, participation and respect for cultural diversity.

MINISTRY OF THE ENVIRONMENT, ECUADOR
This is the Ecuadorian agency responsible for administering managing the State Heritage Protected Areas by designing environmental policies and coordinating strategies, projects and programs for the stewardship of ecosystems and the sustainable use of natural resources.  The Ministry of the Environment proposes and defines the rules for obtaining the suitable level of environmental quality and the appropriate use of biodiversity and the country’s natural resources.

SERNANP
The National Service of State Protected Areas by the State (known by the Spanish acronym SERNANP) is a specialized technical public body under the Ministry of Environment, responsible for directing and establishing the technical and administrative criteria for the conservation of Protected Areas - ANP, and for safeguarding the protection of biological diversity. SERNANP is the governing body of the National System of Protected Natural Areas by the State – (known by the Spanish acronym SINANPE), and its technical and regulatory authority enables it to carry out its work in coordination with regional and local governments and property owners recognized as private conservation areas.
